Why celebrate a birthday, when you celebrate the entire month?
April is birthmonth for me. Follow the hashtag on twitter, tumblr, and instagram to catch my eats and adornments of the month!
I’ve always believed in having my clothes tell a story. Drama, thriller, suggestive, or simply a passing-days-of-life type of read, any attire should resonate with gapers as something which reminds them of something else altogether. The more interpretations, the better in garnering a variety of attention. The fewer the interpretations, the more accurate you have been in creating the perfect look.
My story is probably laced with chapters from all the aforementioned genres.
Keeping this in mind, these are my seven favorite looks from lookbook in the past year, keeping in line with lookbook legacies of all things blue and ferocious. Seven being a lucky number, and being six plus one. And six signifying the peak of the month.
One catch per piece, and a plethora of occasions for each. And naturally, many stories for all of them.
Blend Bling and Sun to create Hype
It is almost like catching up on all the hype that floats around like debris in the air. This look reminds me and many others of the Twilight franchise.
Pale skin, light eyes, and a distant look. Is vampire era back in a slithering, subtle ferocity? Not as deadly as a halloween look, but dwelling more on surreal waters. This is one of my favorite tees, a dramatized sailor look with huge buttons. Top it with skinny jeans, pointy shoes, a silver/gold clash of belt and buckles… and I’m all set for a sun dipped excursion.
Hence, this look is christened Twilight in the Sunlight. Are you mythical, predatory or saccharine?. You decide.
Occasions: brunch, winery tour, sailing on a luxury boat, a vacation requiring binoculars
Flash Your Single-hood in Public
Showing off your single-hood does not need to be crass, nor oozing with flirtatious swagger. A simple statement on a punchy red tee (red being the color of April!) does the trick.
A hot sunny outdoorsy vacation day settles into a dusky night. And something glimmers in blood red. No, not a deja vu from vampire days, but just an ode to my favorite color. Dress it down, keep it casual, but remain funky and punchy. That’s why we call it feeling flirty. And thus the tee and its touche statement – My Ex Is A Supermodel. Paired with skinny jeans, high top canvas sneakers, a studded belt, and a pouty smug smile.
Occasions: Running errands, vacation, sports bar+dance night out, walking about a city swarming with singletons
Be a Gretel-less Hansel on a Picnic
(Of course, who says Gretel isn’t the one taking the photograph?)
Once upon a time, there was a boy. This story is about that boy. And his dilemma.
He seeks a picnic spot in a picnic table shirt from the deserted wilderness of Twilight to the red-brick-road of Oz. Of two paths, which should he take? Not as ferocious as previous looks, but still plain, somber, if not mildly melancholy. Loving that plaid and tartan are trends of 2012. Alongside denim, they add so much texture to a look. Add a ‘lost-in-the-wild’ expression to christen to the look Finding the Lost Picnic Party.
Occasions: Picnic, chilly spring or fall day, brunch
Be the Star of a Winter Day
Winter mandates you to cover up in layers. But that shouldn’t stop you from covering up your inner star.
Winter is here. And I’m wearing a bright RED snowflake. No time for simplicity nor ferocity, what we have to do is huddle, cuddle, and wrap ourselves up in fashionable layers of all things warm and fuzzy.
Denim is the perfect winter getaway. Boots are making a comeback, the longer the better! Top it with a hand-knit sweater and a double breasted jacket. Not to mention the Russian hat which is oh so popular. Give it your best smouldering look, and you’re set to look hot on a cool winter day.
Occasions: a dead of winter day, a brave day out in the snow, an arctic vacation, holiday sales shopping
Keep it Simple yet Enigmatic when the Sun Shines
When the sun shines bright, the alternative to looking like a fruit punch is to look like a vanilla ice cream.
Something about this look reminds me of everything vanilla. And I despise the flavor, and the concept. Perhaps the detergent white shirt with mirrored speckles, on a waffle colored pair of jeans? And now I’m dreaming of ice cream in the sun.
Or a breezy day by the river looking at the favorite city of Manhattan and its curiosity evoking secrets? As always, I maintain my love for blue with a studded jade belt. Unlike previous ferocious looks, its time to focus on simplicity. Behold, summer vanilla.
Occasions: lunch, lounge, barhop, days when you don’t feel like going to work but do anyway
Pop out the Color for a Corporate Cocktail
It is not necessary to match the color of your cocktail with the color of your shirt (or your socks!), which would be an an apt mix of eerie and sensational. But a corporate event need not make you a white shirt and black pants clad penguin, nor should it be your blue ill fitted shirt with loose khakis and a forgotten yellow tie. Keep to solids if you like, but pop out the color!
Ever worn something that looks good enough to eat? Love the bright pop of shirt which makes drab corporate come to life. Pick up a fruity, peachy shirt and pair it with pants or skinny trousers and you’re set to swoon. Naturally being me, I paired this with a 4G belt and snakey grey shoes with a dash of orange in the candy orange socks. Hisss, the ferocious fascination does not cease. Go for it, especially if you are escaping the snowy winter on a preppy sweltering holiday. So, feeling peachy?
Occasions: happy hour, contract winning party, after dark deeds
Be Tough with Attitude without being Sloppy
Guys with toughness and attitude are always attractive. But if this comes with sloppiness, and a reeking odor, it can be an instant turnoff. So, here’s a story to sharpen the edges while leaving them rough.
Five key words. Edgy. Leather. Raw. Metal. Attitude.
Rugged spells out the crux of this look, complete with all things denim, metal and soaking with attitude. Complete with a few days away from shaving and an eyebrow hook. The only dash of smoothness is the argyle dip-dyed sweater. he leather jacket, the tough boots with many zippers, skinny dark jeans, the leather belt with a sharp metal buckle, and the slicked gelled hair. Quite the biker look, with a dude out to seek a loved one, or vow for revenge. Don’t forget that the motorcycle and biker look is a trending fashion staple.
Don’t forget to top it off with your best smoulder and eyebrow hook. This is why we call this look ‘When rugged meets attitude‘.
Occasions: bar-hop, meal date, waiting outside a swanky place for your date
