Overcoming Boxed Definitions: Using Fashion to Showcase a Gender Neutral Platform

I frankly do not believe in definitions. And I especially despise stereotyping. These things seem fundamentally archaic in the almost mid 2000s. Almost akin to zodiacs and horoscopes, which seem to define people only into 12 personality types, affecting consequently what people do, wear, and fundamentally influence what they become. I should really create a framework on the diabolical nature of this disparity that still exists, but until I do, this monologue will suffice.

Without meaning to be preachy, a simple testament comes from the fashion world, where things are at least more liberal. Art is art, and I’m always thrilled to be a part of it. In today’s progressive times in need of resistance, I opted to continue a trend foreseen with pink, waltzing through the streets of Philadelphia with the ethereal Moda Ninja. Which brings me to Print All Over Me (PAOM) and how all this was born.

So upon ordering a tank and a clutch from Print All Over Me (PAOM), I also received this matching jacket. The platform itself is fantastic, bringing digitally printed outfits to reality with a host of collaborations from artists to musicians to scientists to retailers. Focused on sustainable fashion giving fair wages and health benefits to studio employees in Shanghai, the charitable element was most humble too. Fundamentally, most of the outfits on the platform are gender neutral and unisex – they can be styled by everyone alike, and offer whimsy to those who seek it, and style to those who can conquer it. Shop here, and use SOURABH for 15% off!

The jacket was an oversized one from Wacky Wacko, peachy pink with ‘wig hideaway’ and other whimsical stories all over it. But what made an unusual turn of events was when the charming Moda Ninja draped it on herself, transforming the pseudo men’s jacket into a shirtdress in no time at all, with enough flair and pizzazz to pull off an entire look. Bringing me back to the point of gender neutralness, unisex clothing and ultimately, gender fluidity.

Truly it’s time to pour acid on definitions and boxes that tend to confine us more than they define us. Starting with this tale of fashion, let’s hope that this idea permeates other barriers too. Till then, I hope you enjoy this amazing gender fluid, gender neutral, unisex and fundamentally whimsical collaboration. Shop here, and use SOURABH for 15% off.
